Two new coins issued today for the 2020 coin collection, dedicated to scientific research and solidarity

The Ministry of Economy and Finance today issued two coins inspired by the values of scientific research and solidarity, dedicated to 30 years of activity of the Telethon Foundation and the 80th anniversary of the Italian National Fire Corps.

The coins, both created by the engravers of the Poligrafico and Zecca dello Stato (State Mint and Printing Institute, IPZS), are produced at the Officine della Zecca dello Stato (State Mint Workshops).

Moneta telethon

The coin dedicated to the Telethon Foundation was created by the engraver Claudia Momoni to celebrate the importance of the scientific research and the value of the solidarity demonstrated by the work of the Foundation and has a nominal value of €5.
The obverse of the coin features the Foundation logo above a design representing scientific research: the background shows the helix molecular structure of DNA, overlaid by the outline of two chemistry flasks.
The words “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” are engraved around the edge.
The reverse of the coin features a stylized double helix of DNA, superimposed by the silhouettes of human figures joined in a chain of solidarity.
Around the edge at the top, the words “30 ANNI DI RICERCA” (30 YEARS OF RESEARCH), with the dates “1990 * 2020” below; in the bottom left, the letter “R” identifying the Mint of Rome; in the middle, the value “5 EURO”; and finally, at the bottom, the name of the designer “MOMONI” around the edge.
As for other issues of this collection, this coin uses coloured inserts, which, combined with innovative minting technologies, enhance the fine quality and beauty of the design.
