HISTORY
The Department of the Treasury Library, in a juridical-economic context, came into being in 1962 as a store for volumes of publications coming from suppressed offices, and was then formally instituted by the Ministerial Decree of December 21, 1972.

The Library also collects material of juridical and economic nature through an electronic support system, and carries out the active functions of documentation office regarding institutional publications of the Department of the Treasury.

Because of the particular nature of its collection, the Library is also open to scholars and graduating students who utilise the facilities to carry out their research on themes that are closely linked with the competences of the Department.

Information on an electronic format, access to databanks and internet are also available.

The Library is also a member of Associazione Essper (Economia e Scienze Sociali Periodici), the Associazione Italiana Biblioteche  and the Associazione Italiana per la Documentazione Avanzata .

DEVELOPMENT PLANS
The Library updates its collection through the direct collaboration with the most qualified users of the Department of the Treasury, thus conferring the highly specialised character to its collection of books and periodicals.

Besides the traditional paper publications, the Library is also increasing its acquisition and use of material on electronic systems support, both in cd-rom and access on-line, e.g. databanks full text or bibliographical, in order to have access to specific documents of a legislative or economic nature.

The acquisitions are of an always more specialised nature, thus increasing the quality of the collection.

Furthermore, the Library promotes reciprocal agreements with other libraries, in turn providing inter-library loans (usually by request), while respecting the regulations in force, and promoting free reciprocal services.

Reference service

Use of the Library facilities is possible only by prior appointment or by providing a letter of introduction. Use of the facilities is governed by the Library Regulations (Regolamento della Biblioteca).

LOAN SERVICE
Loans are made on the following basis:
Loans to the Administration personnel
Inter-library loans with libraries that accept the terms and conditions of the reciprocal agreement.
