Output Gaps Working Group (OGWG)

The Output Gaps Working Group (OGWG), operational since 1999, is responsible for estimating the potential output and output gaps (the percentage difference between actual and potential output) of the European Union member countries, as well as analyzing the effects of the economic cycle on budget balances. The OGWG is tasked with monitoring the commonly-agreed methodology for estimating potential GDP and projecting GDP in the medium term, while also providing relevant data for the long-term sustainability analysis conducted within the Ageing Working Group, with which it collaborates closely.
