Every year, the Italian Department of the Treasury conducts a census of public sector real estate, covering around 11 thousand public administrations.

This project, which was launched in 2010 pursuant to article 2, paragraph 222, of Italian Law no. 191/2009, has created a single database for the whole of Italy.

Today, this database represents the largest and most detailed information tool to investigate the characteristics and use of public sector real estate, as well as to identify possible enhancement measures and more efficient management methods.

On the basis of the information provided by the administrations, the Department draws up and publishes an annual report.

Since June 2017, up-to-date information is also available in open data format, as required by art.9-bis of Italian Legislative Decree no. 33 of 14/03/2013 (Testo unico sulla trasparenza) and its subsequent amendments.
